Painting:

Painted with knife and brush on successive days from the same location, Castelnau de Montmiral, painted ‘plien aire’ by a very soggy artist.

The challenge, I have often accepted, on land and at sea was to see what would happen by painting in inclement weather by working very much in the spirit of one of my heroes and a mentor, J M W Turner.

Here I present you with a pair of experiments, the weather was wet but warm , a typical l’Occitaine Midi Pyrenees summer storm.

I felt I just had to do something , my alternatives being to stay snug indoors or donned my sea jacket.

Hot Rain detail
Hot Rain, detail

These paintings were made on successive days, as an experiment, during and  immediately after  heavy rain and thunderstorms that peeled off the Pyrenees, typical of summer in this beautiful region.

The subject I chose to paint is a 3 km walk down hill passing fields and woodland to the Lac de Vere, from the bastide village of Castelnau de Montmiral.

The Tarn micro climate during summer is noted for its successive warm days each hotter than the previous days.

After about 10 days the climate is often refreshed and cooled by thunderstorms that roll of the Pyrenees, 100 miles to the West.

These paintings with their extraordinary ambience make a fine reminder of Midi-Pyrénées, SW France, for a private collection, hotel of restaurant.
