not strictly “Israel Collection but rather splendid, Plymouth’s beautiful and historic synagogue is the oldest Ashkenasi synagogue in continuous use in the English speaking worlds.

Plymouth’s Historic Synagogue, Israel series.
A painting that will never date, a classic subject and one I am particularly fond of as I attended this schule for many years, and a sound investment at 850 and I’d very much like this painting to go to a home where it’s appreciated.
The interior has a marvellous patina of age and calm and is now grade listed A 1.
Plymouth has a long and honourable history of integrating minorities, a history to be proud of.
As for Jews, it’s quite possible they first came to what is now Plymouth more than 2,000 years astern with Phoenician navigators as miners and traders in search of tin, for certain there was a community in Exeter by 1181.
Israel and Gordon Frickers
Gordon has visited Israel three times, toured extensively including creating on locations and has exhibited by invitation in Jerusalem.
Gordon is well known in part because most of his paintings have distinctive, resonating, enduring qualities in part because Gordon Frickers has an unusually rich form of colour vision.
These are qualities are gifts he has in common with some of the greatest past masters including Cézanne Degas, Dürer, Titian and Rembrandt, Monet. Aside from his beautiful, distinctive and highly original landscape paintings, Gordon is more celebrated as a marine artist with several famous much reproduced paintings to his credit foremost of which are ‘Roaring Forties’, ‘I Have Urgent Dispatches’ and ‘Trafalgar Dawn’.
Gordon Frickers is one of the very few artists invited to created a one man show of (35) paintings (May 2011) at the European Parliament, Brussels, an impressive addition to his list of exhibitions in other prestigious venues in Britain and Europe.
Mostly these paintings were made either on location or soon after my 1984 visit.
These few impressions are eye witness paintings that are now historic, Israel has developed so rapidly.
Israel was barren, desolate, underpopulated”, this wasteland is confirmed in writings of visitors like Napoleon Bonaparte & Mark Twain, 19th century #paintings & photographs.
Of my own 1st visit (1984) (see https://artfrickers.com/project-picturesque-wine-villages-of-bordeaux/israel-landscapes/ one can see how underdeveloped Israel was.
As the Ottoman Empire declined Jewish people decided there was at last a real opportunity to return to redevelop their historic homeland land.
My painting skills have also developed over many years.
I sometimes dream of an opportunity to return and paint anew in beautiful historic Israel, lack of funds, sponsor or patrons conspires to arrest that wish.
