Albi, 37.5 C (99.5 F) here yesterday in the Tarn according to my car, une canicule.
A day in and around nearby beautiful, gourmet, Albi, a UNESCO World Heritage city.
The ‘Old Quarter’ near the cathedral is particularly noted for its restaurants and fine cloths and jewellery shops.
Albi has a surprising connection with the sea.
The city was the home of Laperouse, the French answer to Captain James Cook.
Laperouse entering Botany Bay, ”
“Lapérouse and the First Fleet” measures 61 x 91 cm (24″ x 36″), oils, available, £3000. ex studio, ex frame.
There is a small but excellent museum dedicated to Laperouse voyage and a world class Toulouse-Lautrec museum.
I was invited to a late evening ‘terrace’ dinner with vegan Israeli friends.
Delicious foods, lively varied conversations in 4 languages two of which I more or less understood, great company.
My grateful thanks to my host and hostess, to Ellen Rose and her friend Mia for the introduction.
I hope you were equally fortunate?
