Nelson

In 1806 Horatio Nelson on this day was laid to rest during one of the most spectacular British of funerals of all time.

Nelson was a patriot, a man of wide experience, well read, devoted to his career, who had served as an ordinary seaman on merchant ships and as an Admiral of His Britannic Majesty’s Royal Navy.

Nelson was in some ways the first British superstar, loved by the majority of the population, lauded in much of Europe, loved by his men although one could argue that honour belongs to one of Nelson’s heroes, Sir Francis Drake.

Nelson's frigates
Nelson’s night frigate action, one of his least known but most inspiring stories.

Nelson is an exciting, inspiring example, especially for the young.
