A question on Facebook from my dear friend Sara Malamud who is a nexus, ( nexus; from Latin: a binding together, from nectere to bind, the ancients used honey for many purposes including on wounds and very often in wine); Sara is also a very good professional matchmaker. I thought it fun and it might interest some of you if we share her question and my reply.
“Have you ever thought of publishing a book with snippets of seafaring history alongside prints of your paintings, Gordon? Sounds like a perfect blend of your talents!”
I wrote, Sara Malamud nice idea, thank you. A book has been suggested, as yet no author, publisher or film producer has made a firm commitment.
Maybe it will happen one day, I don’t see that as my problem; my calling is to paint as much and as best I can.
I can tell you though, currently, two companies are muttering about making videos; again, either they will have to grab me and hold me in place or less likely, I’d better get keen and chase them.
For sure we would be spoilt for material.
Together with my marine and landscapes, the adventure of the artist, the struggle for recognition.
There is also how I became an artist and how I learnt to overcome my very odd colour vision, learned to release “wild pyrotechnics” when I choose and turn the visual handicap to advantage.
You have a ‘story rich environment’ to work on.
I don’t think it would take to long to identify which stories are the most entertaining and dramatise the threads to make a strong yarn.
The illustration shown here is a detail from the breakthrough painting “Red Bales 2”, you can find it easily via ‘search’ on https://artfrickers.com/
We already have a profusion of illustrations, paintings, photographs and at least four ‘plots’.
