Paintings, risks and rewards :
My mentor said “Wild pyrotechnics”, expressing his astonishment, at The Painting School of Montmiral.
These two landscape paintings are probably the two most significant on this Gordon Frickers web site in terms of the artist’s understanding of his unusual colour vision and development as a painter.
Under his guidance, painting ‘plien aire’, I was developing my understanding of my unusually complex, highly individual colour experience to advantage, in the manner and tradition of Turner, Cezanne and van Gogh.
I was deeply frustrated by the first painting although a lot of people like this painting so I returned the next day and created a personal breakthrough.
For the first time I painted uninhibited by my unstable colour vision, spontaneously painting the colours as I saw them.
“Red Bales 1 and 2″
were for me breakthrough paintings.
These landscape paintings have influenced me and quite a number of my fellow painters.
These paintings were key moments in my understanding of colour and how I see colour as opposed to how ‘colour normal’ people perceive colours, thus turning what many see as a visual handicap, to advantage.
These two ‘Red Bales paintings developed into a series of 6 as I explored and took risks to understand how i was seeing our world.

I have kept only these two paintings from the series, as points of reference, now I’m willing to let you have one or both.
