The painting
One of my unrepeatable ‘Sunset Series’.
This painting is one of my reactions to a series of particularly vivid sunsets seen during an unusually hot, dry spell, daytime temperatures reaching 45 to 48 C (up to 118.4 F) at Castelnau de Montmiral.
I saw a scene worthy of an attempt to ‘Impossible to paint‘.
Of course that thought lead to ‘I’ll try and see what happens‘.
These ‘Solar Power Paintings‘ came about by inspiration, anticipation and by seizing the moment.
They were pre planned, with careful preparation, and are completely unrepeatable!
My mentor said try power painting meaning power in the stop.
A painter can only do this when he can concentrate, fully focused, free of other concerns.
The site I chose to work from was the mound of the Virgin at Castelnau de Montmiral.
The road is said to be an old Roman highway.
The forest you see on the skyline is the Foret de Grisigne which is according to local people one of the two oldest un-spoilt forests in Europe and a great source of many natural renewable products some of which in various forms including soaps and perfumes are available via the village pharmacy.
