The fortress of Blaye was built in the 17th century by Vauban the famous engineer of King Louis XIV and is the largest he designed in Europe.
This massive citadel the “Bolt of the Estuary” overlooks the Gironde estuary, is listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site.
