Painting rain on location this very original, unrepeatable study is of a summer storm caught in dramatic mood.

Painting the impossible, a very original ‘plien aire’ painting by Gordon Frickers

Painting:

Painting in rain is a very soggy artist experience painting with knife and brush in this instance on successive days from the same location, Castelnau de Montmiral, painting ‘plien aire’.

Painting in rain is a challenge I have often accepted on land and at sea was to see what would happen.

Painting in inclement weather thus working very much in the grand spirit of great painters, including one of my heroes J. M. W. Turner.

These paintings are a pair of experiments, the weather was wet but warm , a typical l’Occitaine Midi Pyrenees summer storm.

I felt I just had to do something , my alternatives being to stay snug indoors.

I chose to donned my sea jacket and give the challenge a go.

The Tarn department is a micro climate during summer is noted for its successive warm days each hotter than the previous days.

After about 10 days the climate is refreshed and cooled by thunderstorms that roll of the Pyrenees, 100 miles to the West.

These paintings with their extraordinary ambience make a fine reminder of a L’Occitane summer, S. W. France, ideal for a private collection. hotel of restaurant.
