The painting

One of a literally brilliant series painted as the French say, ‘plien aire’, part of a series of studies of early morning light over the sea made early in the artists career when he lived at Polmear Parc, Par, Cornwall.

In those days coasters waiting to load English China Clay entering or departing Par Docks was a regular sight.

We use to say one could tell how the national economy was doing by the number of ships.

The docks have closed, the men are out of work, the 200 year old port is scheduled to become yet another marina.
