I really really want to press on with this exciting project. I have quite a few fine paintings in stock and feel the best is yet to come.
Plus, people keep buying the paintings. to make a really impressive show I feel I need to hide the collection.
A problem of success I suppose… ?
What is this enthusiasm for ‘Famous, Picturesque Wine Villages of Bordeaux’ all about?
Bordeaux, arguably the most famous name in wines? Many have heard the famous names, St Emilion, Pomerol,
Sauternes, Médoc, Graves … We know the names but what do these places look like? Many a famous artist have painted around Bordeaux. No one has ever painted a series about the villages and small towns.
The charm of the region is seen through the eyes of an artist who knows this beautiful and varied region intimately.
Bordeaux is significantly different from all other French wine regions including with a very strong historic connection to England and a tradition of exporting to famous people and places.
Timely and not to be ignored, the French are at present spending a fortune on promoting the region including opening a new multi million Euro Wine Museum at Bordeaux and of course arrange Bordeaux Fairs world wide.
This project is well advanced, I’ve visited the region more than a few times, looking for subjects, exploring, learning about the products, the history, the hopes for the future, often painting ‘plien aire’.
A sub plot, While Bordeaux is a name perhaps the best known known world wide, there is much more to the wines of South West France. To name a few, Carcassonne, Minevois, Languedoc, Corbiers, Cahors, Buzet, Fronton … and in particular the little know but very big story region of remote Gaillac [pronounced guy’ac]. Of these paintings Alain Soreano, author, historian when opening the exhibition at the Centre Culturale, Gaillac, December 2016. “more than a match for anything in the Musee d’Orsay”.
